Email updates not sending, new server installation

We have configured SMTP server info into Comm page of Administration Control. Email addresses are set up for the users and task ownership is set up as well. Emails are not being sent. Can't even send test email from Admin Control window. Not sure what else needs to be done and can't find any documentation on this. Is there anything that I am missing?
